The tonewood department is a pet project of mine. I trained and qualified as a musical instrument maker in the 1970's and the pleasure of selecting and handling tonewoods has been an ever present nostalgic itch for me since the foundation of Timberline in 1980. I can offer the best range and quality ever for the professional or amateur guitar maker, resulting from more than 20 years experience sourcing and trading in special woods and my 30 years experience as a luthier. I cut as much as possible in house to a level of quality and precision rarely seen. My production has been sold to other tonewood dealers worldwide. Where I am obliged to buy materials cut in the country of origin I choose my trading partners carefully, and wherever possible select timber on a piece by piece basis with the understanding that there is no market in the UK for low quality or 'factory' grade wood. Since it is all about grade, I recommend a careful read of my page defining how my grading system works. It is not always the same as offered elsewhere but it is very simple and logical and should be easy to understand. Click here to see our tonewood grading explained
